Ryan Bingham - Junky Star

 

The first time I heard of Ryan Bingham was from the film "Crazy Heart" starring Jeff Bridges as a struggling Country musician. Bingham composed and wrote the lyrics for the title track entitled "The Weary Kind" which was awarded a Golden Globe, Academy Award and a Grammy for best original original song between 2010 and 2011.

Country/Americana music has always been something of a guilty pleasure to me, but not all of this album can be bundled into that genre. The opening track "The Poet" is a very chilled out song and although it doesn't have much going on musically, there is a definite feeling of emotion and relaxation. Moving through the tracks the album takes on a more energetic stance for the most part, with guitar licks that would make all the great country artists proud as well as powerful lyrical content that is easy to pick up on and join in with. 

I would thoroughly recommend this album to anyone out there and it is a perfect accompaniment to things like barbecues, smaller gatherings or those days where you are just chilling out and soaking up some sun!
