Periphery - Clear EP

Periphery have remained one of my consistent favourites ever since their debut album was released several years ago pretty much starting off the Djent movement.

However, this EP was written with a slightly different idea in mind. With the idea of collaborating, and showing, all the different influences of the band, each member wrote their own song  for this record. Admittedly, at first I was a bit skeptical upon hearing this notion but after powering through the first 3 tracks I was hooked. With a nice piano introduction entitled "Overture" the EP kicks off to a moderate start, nothing too special. However, less than a minute in to "Feed The Ground", listeners can feel the music jump to that higher level we all crave from our favourite bands. Another track deserving of a shout out is "The Parade Of Ashes" written by vocalist Spencer Sotelo. It has very subtle tones of a Pop-Punk record for the first 40 seconds before his voice comes down like a wounded ox for a prechorus. More than anything, this track portrays the diversity and range of Sotelo's vocal capability at the same time as sending out a good message within the lyrics.
