Counterparts - The Difference Between Hell And Home
This is another one of those relatively new bands to me and after listening to their debut album "Prophets" after this one, the first thing I noticed was how much their sound has progressed and evolved into the melodic hardcore music on this record. There is a very complimentary mix of clean and harsh vocals, as is usually found with hardcore bands. For me, though, I feel that the rhythm section of Counterparts are spot on, providing a solid arrangement for the vocals, as well as the lead guitar playing some very melodic hooks over the top - the best example of this can be found in the track "Compass".
The album is nicely separated by an intermission track, "Decay", featuring a basic backing track and the vocalist talking over the top. Without this I would wonder if the album was too much of an outburst but the build up into this interlude, and the lead in to "Compass", flows perfectly and makes for a truly entertaining listen.
Counterparts are certainly a band to look out for and I expect big things to happen for them.
